Zone 1 and 2 lighting pass. Or as I like to think of them as the primary light source. In this case they're inside so it is more of an ambient lighting setup. Zone 1 Is the shadows/ unlit (Black). Zone 2 is the lighting (white).

A quick snippet and breakdown of some of the character lighting I did for Genlock at Rooster Teeth Productions. Above are some of the render layers used to create the final shot as well as a small description. The lighting process is similar to RWBY but with more added realism. Below are some of the other shots I worked on.
